Smart as a horse, hung like Einstein!
Drive fastest laps humanly possible, so fast you absolutely MUST have set a track record.
Return to paddock. Learn from crew and Timing sheets that you were 1.5 seconds off the pace.
Hate self. Feel miserable. Consider taking up stamp-collecting.
Go out for next session.
Lather, rinse, repeat.

Goals:
1. End weekend with noone hurt, including me.
2. Don't kill the car.
3. Have fun.
4. Go as fast as possible.
Overall- do not violate #1 trying to do #2, 3, or 4.

I have to agree with Ed, Mickey. Not sure what you're asking?
As Andy and I have talked many, many times about, it's what I call a "complete program" if you want to win (which is what I assume your main goal is considering your willingness to drive your car to 11/10ths........................ )
It's not about being the fastest driver, it's not about having the fastest car. it's about doing all the little things that will give you the best opportunity to win. 10/10ths car prep, tire management, data acquisition, video, replacing parts before they break, check lists, alignments that are dead on, not "close enough", etc, etc, etc.............
Because when the green flag drops, all plans go out the window. (as Kirk referenced in his quote)

1. Start getting ready 2 hrs before I have to leave for the track.
2. Realize I'm out of time and I didn't remember to do the maintenance I dreamed up after the last race.
3. roll car out of trailer (hope it starts!), wash the crust off from last race.
4. check tires for rubber. enough? leave on car. not enough? leave on and toss a couple more spares in the trailer. corded? replace before leaving.
5. Put car back in trailer.
6. toss in replacements for all parts broken at last race, and whatever spares you might need. extra tranny, diff, pads, etc.
7. get to track, unload car. decide you're going to get there early enough tomorrow to put car together tomorrow morning
8. screw that idea. sleep in. get to track during worker meeting. go work corner until session before yours. run to car, air up tires, check the oil. let engine warm up while I'm changing into nomex
9. qualify 4th
10. go work corner.
11. add 5 gals gas and go race. somehow finish 2nd.
12. go work corner
13. drink beer.

Be track ready two weeks prior to the event.
Drive to the best of my ability and try to get the most out of my car.
Do nothing at the track other than add gas, change tires and check air pressures.
Be conservative on the first lap...don't hit, don't be hit!
Have FUN

OK, between races:
Clean tires, remove tires from car and put car on jack stands.
Nut and bolt, check rotors, pads. Bleed brakes every other race.
On BMW, valve adjustment and leak down test. Before ARRC dyno test to see if head needs to be freshened. Freshen head if necessary.
On RX7 change fluids.
Check corner weights depending on how car is handling.
Check N2 charge in shocks.

Wait I am doing something wrong...
no one mentioned changing diapers or yelling at the kids! :-)
No one mentioned bragging too your buddy how you kicked his/her but... and if you didn't how you ignored him/her doing the same to you! :-)

No metal to metal.
If you hit (or are hit by) someone and have any body damage, the weekend is a disaster.
Tow home safely.
Hope that Andy doesn't show up with his monster ITA car. LOL
Go out, manage to get a win. Come into paddock, get reminded how much I still suck as SM cars are going two seconds faster. <_<

Strategery.
Game plan on a race weekend?
Bring monster ITA car.
Listen to faster drivers on little points trying to grab 1/10ths, know that there is always someone better and faster so shut up and listen
Be first to qualifying grid
Rip off 5 of your best most focused laps then pit for tire pressure reset
Find a hole and grab one more flying qualifier
Verify with pits or with data that you are fast, come in
Focus on reaction time or communication WRT green flag
Be first to T1
Drive away from field
Collect $5 ash tray and wonder where your money went
Sell car to equally fast SM driver to keep your work in the area
Help him continue to crush the spirits of the other ITA drivers who now have Miatas
Use money to help fund NSX purchase
...wait, is this more than you wanted?
LOL Still not sure what your question was. But if you are looking for one word?
Racecraft.
Bastard.
Give it a few years then come back. MAYBE I'll be ready for you then.
