pics are small; the red tank? Few thoughts:
- Heat. The sun will heat that thing up real quick, and fuel may expand and spill out.
- Tracks. Many tracks (e.g., VIR) don't allow you to bring in outside fuel. Hard to enforce, unless it's in a big red tank on an open trailer with the words "HEY! I HAVE FUEL IN HERE!!!" on it...
- Safety. External tank is subject to road debris.
Putting some kind of cover over it will help all three.

I liked the rig that Jeff Young et al. used at one of the 13 hours. It was one of those big poly boxes inside a wire frame pallet.
By "like" I mean equal parts impressed and scared.

Thanks for the cautions folks. I look at this as better/safer than the four five gallon jugs I used to carry on the front of the trailer. Debris would punture them more easily and they weren't as secure compared to the SAE 5 bolts holding the tank down. Regarding expansion, the manufacturer suggests leaving a good gallon of space for expansion or 2 inches from the fill. Never heard about tracks not allowing outside fuel before. Not sure why water and rust would be more of a risk than in any other metal fuel tank...?

SOWDIV supps say fuel in five gallon cans only. Never seen it enforced, but that is what the supps say.

Been there and done that, works great. I bought two of them and had them welded end to end for more capacity. Stenciled some DOT numbers on there too so the lawman wouldn't get upset. Also stenciled 20 gallons on there so VIR wouldn't get their knickers knotted. Be sure to drain a bit of fuel out after long storage to get the water out.
I've been using it for a couple of years and it works really well. It is very nice to stop by the gas station once every two weekends and have enough fuel for the race car to run.

Ron - that kicks ass! Nicely done. You gotta send me your stencils. I even have the same canopy in your pic.
Cheers!

Ok. I tried searching for a tire rack cover but damn bing just linked me back to Tirerack dot com. Is that a tarp or a true tire cover?
I also need the fuel tank setup too! Very sharp installs guys.
