Default mazda cage mounts per Sportscar

i am ignorant in how miatas are constructed but have a question regarding the picture on page 58 of the March issue of Sportscar.

most mounting plates i have seen consist of plate welded to three planes for strength purposes but this looks like another piece of plate has been welded as a gusset with the roll hoop welded to this "boxed" section.

is this kosher per the rules? don't really see why not but had not thought of it this way. i can see where it might be stronger, etc.

Tom, the deal with the perches front & rear is that more room is gained for the vertical tubes hence more room for the driver seat to be reaward & more front room for the drivers ankles/legs. The reatrbulkhead of a Miata is sloped at about 10* so when the rear is on perches the weld joint around the vertical tube moved rearward. It's also a method front & rear to tie into 2 & 3 surfaces more easly.
