What is the correct process...

I mentioned this a while back, and it is a true reality now. We have looked all over the country and we can not find any brake calipers for our Audi's. Plenty exist for the newer cars and I am guessing that anyone with an older car has to do an upgrade to the newer brake calipers that are available at places such as Autozone and what not.

We don't want to change the brakes as it may result in having to buy new wheels and what not (different bolt pattern), but if we can't find any calipers what the heck are we suposed to do?

Does a process exist to get an allowance from the SCCA? If so what do we do???

1. Rebuild the calipers?
2. If they are not rebuildable, go to the junkyards and find calipers that are rebuildable?

problem... We would rebuild the calipers but the one missing is someplace in the swamp behind no-name streight at Lime Rock Park, along with the darn wheel/tire and 1/2 of hub that broke off.

We have checked junk yards and can not find any cars that have the correct caliper, otherwise that is exactly what we would do.

edited post, I reread the description... maybe this is the part (Only the wrong side and we need the complete caliper with the braket to attach it to strut housing)??? exc in the description below means that it does not include the quattro's correct?

VW p/n for the caliper should be 811 615 123 (L) and 811 615 124 ®

VW p/n for the carrier should be 855 615 125 They do not appear to be 'handed'

The caliper appears to be the same for the solid and vented rotor applications, but the carriers are different

Something you may want to look into are the calipers/carriers from a Scirocco II 16v. Part #s are different (only the first 3 numbers), but they look like they could be the same.

If that caliper was used on all the cars listed (I checked the Dasher, and it is the same p/n), you should be able to find some. Did you try VW Vortex?

i replaced a caliper and rotor on my 81 coupe gt, and i used rabbit stuff. THE STRUT housing i needed to replace was almost impossable to find, i tryed a fox and an 85 4000 the spring seats were in the wrong places on both. also the W/Bs and hubs were all the wrong size. it was a pain in the arse.
GOOD LUCK!!!

I have the same prob with windsheilds on my scirocco, after the new one my windsheld installer broke and the one they found for me, there is 1 new one left in the country. wish I built a rabbit.

This is one of the reasons I built a MkIII Golf rather than an older generation car, despite the fact that on paper the MkII is a slightly better car I think. They get old and parts get scarce. It can't be helped.

I just wanted to take a second and thank EVERYONE whom has sent PM's and posted links on where to possibly find these darn calipers... The resources are great and I will be getting together with my brother tomorrow night to share the info with him so that he can make some calls and get some. He doesn't have internet access so he hasn't seen all the replies yet!!!

You might want to consider buying more than one set if you're able to find them now. It will save you from going through this again anytime soon.

I wonder if someone should start a part-time business, something called ITparts.com that specializes in supplying parts for fading IT cars. I have seen various auctions for things in quantities too big or even buying stuff from overseas where you need a fair amount to make the container etc.

Add to my list of when I retire (soon) possibilities.....
