The car is an 83 Rabbit so it will be run in ITB.

I just want to confirm the engine specifics before I start actually rebuilding the motor.

Am I correct in saying that I basically have one option and that is a Solid Lifter JH?

Does anyone have the correct part number of the block and head I should be running, as I cannot seem to find anything relating to that in the Bentley.

Since I am starting from the ground up I want to make sure everything matches to avoid any possible troubles down the road of part numbers not matching.

Also I was reading some old posts and someone mentioned that a certain JH head was better than others due to having shorter air-shrouded injector inserts. Anyone know anything about this?

    Thanks alot guys.

If this is a Rabbit GTI (check the VIN), the 1.8 liter JH motor is:

    Block - 026 103 101

Head - 026 103 351 B or 026 103 351 E. The 84 'E' came with the 'air shrouded' injectors which helped the street car's hot starts. You may use either one.

    another question:

What is the correct part number for the fuel distributor(housing and actual distributor)?

Where do you guys look to find what the part numbers are suppsoed to be? In the bentley only some items include the part number.

Otherwise by the time my car is done you guys will be sick of me asking for part numbers :026:

I go to the dealer and have them look the part up in ETKA. Then have them print out a copy of the sheet to keep as reference.

Ill go make friends with my local dealer tomorrow.

As far as the heads go, is the better of the two the one with the air shrouds?
