Thread: Off topic --Nissan GT2 engines

    I know this is the IT web site, but I have a Nissan question concerning the engines allowed for the 84-89 Z31 in GT2...

    Looking at the list of engines on page 262 of the 2007 GCR, I notice the obvious 2960cc V6 that comes stock with these cars. But I also notice other eligible engines include a 2899cc, and a 3498cc as class legal.

    Does anyone know what these engines are?

    In the engine type column it says:
    V6
    6 cyl
    SOHC
    DOHC

    Could it be the "6 cyl" means the SOHC straight 6 in the 240/260/280? In the 240/260/280 GT2 car listing there is a 2899cc engine legal. Could the "DOHC" refer to the old IMSA GTP racer? If not, what would the 3498cc be out of?

    It's winter; I needed a break from updating the roll cage; and I'm just thinking out loud...

    I'm not foolish enough to even READ the GTCS. I get all Da Vinci Code when I even think about prying into that stuff...

    Basicly Bob, Almost any combination up to the new 3.5 liter V/6 the DOHC is the current 3.0 or 3.5 liter stuff and the 6cyl does refer to the L-series and i believe you can stroke that to 3.0 liters now.

    Thanks, Joe, interesting indeed...

    Not that I could afford it, I can barely finance running mine in ITS. As it is, all too often the Secretary of the Treasury switches roles to become Secretary of War. And all because I am retired and she isn't...

    Now That's funny, What I started to post was the development curve for GT is. Your car won't be fully developed until you have gone through at least two wives and several girlfriends. Race engines actually are as expensive as the divorce they caused....lol

    For what its worth, I've never seen a 300zx GT2 car that ran anything other than the L28 motor from the 280Z. Not sure why this is, perhaps just because there is more development done on it than the VG30 V6 that the car actually came with.

    Would the 3498cc motor be the current V6 that they put in everything from the 350z to the Quest minivan?

    VG 30 and the vq35 have both been run. The L series stuff is still very popular because there is so much development on them over 30 years.

    Jim Goughry(sp) runs a V/6 VQ configuration in his GT2 350z

    The VG30 has a reputation for being a bit of a dog compared to a fully developed L28. And yes, the VQ35 is in everything from the 350Z to the Quest minivan.
