I have a question reguarding the legality of cage designs. I have read the rule book but am not knowlegable enough about cages to be able to decipher all of it, and I don't want to just drop the car off somewhere and spend 1k-2k for a cage that ends up illegal. My hope is that it is possible to build a cage for my car that is both FIA legal (so I can run with rally america as well if I decide to go that way) and SCCA legal. Rally America allows substitution of 1.75x.095 DOM for the more expensive and tough to find FIA legal material. Diagrams and information are available here : http://www.fia.com/sport/Regulations/appjdrawings.html http://www.fia.com/resources/documents/994...ppJ_Art_253.pdf . I am hoping someone with a bit more knowlege and experience with rulebooks can lend me a hand... because this is all new to me. If anyone also knew of a shop that might be able to help me put a cage together for my car that would be greatly appreciated. I am located in maine and the car is an 85 Audi Coupe GT.

If you have any intent on running the car with RA or any other (Canadian) organization, build the cage to their specs, as they have much more specific requirements about the cage. Be aware that it is suggested in RA's rules to weld the sill bar to the rocker. This will be illegal in IT as IT only allows 6 attachment points, plus two forward points attaching to the firewall.

You might be able to run the RA prepped car in your regions ITE class as it's prepped to another sanctioning bodies rules.

Be aware that the rules north of the border might still be very different than RA's rules. Check out www.specialstage.com 's forums. Be advised... they don't take too kindly to newbies, so just lurk and learn for a while.

Can the seat be tied into the cage structure?
