you don't need a rev limiter in an Audi... Our experience shows that you can't over rev the 5cyl motor...

If your not talking about an Audi, you might want to be more specific.

    Dennis,

I put a rev limiter in my 1.8 Scirocco.. I guess it would help if I missed a shift but if I downshift into a wrong gear it won't make a difference. I have had it for a season and I'm not sure if it is needed. If you miss shifts a lot it would help. I have the Petronix limiter.

    For what it is worth.

Don't bother...just something else to break or screw up.

You've already got the fuel-pump cut-out at 7000 or so (which I always 'hot-wired' around), and the ultimate 'rev limiter' - i.e. rod sticking outside the block - which rarely happens with the 1.8. Really stout motor, really stout bottom end.

The only bad thing you can do to a 1.8 is hit 1st while making the 4-3 downshift (or 2nd while going 5-4), and a rev limiter won't save you.

Just like an American V8, once you get past a certain RPM on the 1.8, it just starts to bog. On my GTi I didn't need to look at the tack for shift points, I could feel when I needed to shift.
