Ok I will probably regret posting this but the Regions that run at lime rock are trying to get some consistency in the race program between regions. The goal is that as a racer you will not see a large difference between weekends no mater what region happens to be putting on the event. We are trying to have the race groups and the supps pretty much the same every time we go there. We also have looked at participation numbers in different classes and which way they are trending.

There is also an effort to reduce the number of race group to the lowest number
possible. We cannot do much to lower the cost to race at LRP but if we can
reduce the number of groups we can at least give drivers the most track time
possible for the money.

There is no central authority so negotiating this is not easy. A draft of race
groups have been proposed that would get us to 8 groups. The number person
is going to use this grouping this year even thought the regions have not
formally adopted it yet. This effort is for regional only. If we get this done we
will talk about nationals later. The proposed groups are

Slow Formula: FV, F5, Club Ford, Narrc Club Ford
Fast Formula: All the rest and all the sports racers, except SRF
SRF: SRF and SPU
SSM: SSM and ITC
Small Bore and ITA: F, G, HP, T2, T3, and ITA
Big Bore: GT*, T1, AS, EP, SPO, ITE
SM and SS: SM, SSB, SSC
ITS, B: Well, ITS and ITB.

An added benefit of standard groups is we can agree to rotate the order so some classes don’t always run first or last.

These grouping are Lime Rock only. My guess is NHIS groups will be decided in January based on analysis of participation numbers there.
