    Default Southern Indiana Hillbillies

You know I was just checking the race results at St. Louis last weekend, didn't get to go due to car not ready, and noticed that Chris Ludwig is listed from Floyd Knobs Indiana.
Hell, I am from New Albany and grew up in Greenville Indiana near the knobs.
Hey man, give me a holler some time, I had no idea that a great Mazda driver was so damn close! Congrats on your finish at Gateway, it was a big field.

Chris, I always thought that living in Kentucky made us the hillbillies. Now that you have been so labeled I see how you fit in with us so well.

Hell, we're all "Hoosiers" like the tires.
I grew up in Greenville, and just moved back to New Albany after a 20 year period.

Good to know that a fellow IT/Mazda racer is so close. I live right off Old Vincennes Road, got my left front tire loose finally by running car 1/2 up Old Vincennes.

I will be at IRP in May and next month taking my FC to National at Memphis.

Do you remember Charlie Glotzbach that used to race NASCAR in the 70's and 80's? He is/was from Edwardsville IN real close, had a garage out by "Polly Freeze". I used to run at the Jeff Sportsdrome and the dirt track at Charlestown when I was late teens and early twenties.

I didn't mean to call you names or insult you. Just surprised to find out you live in the area.
Appreciate all your advice and help.

    See ya soon!

Not insulted at all. Win will tell you I like to dish it out.

We'll be at IRP for sure. Look for a black gooseneck and an orange and white FC.

I wasn't going to touch that hillbillie thing with a ten foot pole. But do you folks know where/how the name Hoosier came about?

I heard it was from, "who's there?"
or now days "hoser" , of course who can forget the illustrious Bob Knight and his "Hoosiers" now with the incredible Texas Tech BB team.
It is great to be a hoosier and have the greatest motor racing facility in the world here. Too bad the SCCA doesn't race at Indy Motor Speedway, Tony George was an SCCA racer in formula cars and his nephew, was an SCCA FF champ several years ago. Mary Hulman George is a regular at the Indy Gran Prix at IRP and I believe Tony is still an INDY region SCCA memeber. Hey Chris and you other "Hoosiers", there is a test day this friday March 25 at Putnam Park with the "Late Apex" car club starting at 8a to 5p. Cost is minimal for a test day and info can be found at their web page.
It is a day full of runs and is real close at Putnamville IN, about 30miles west of Indy off I-70. I have run it several times in the past and it gives you a chance to shake the car down and play in traffic.
So Chris, you have a FC also?

Johnny, we'll talk about the Hoosier thing at the track someday.

You folks may have a great (greatest motor racing facility in the world ????????) motor racing facility but we have the oldest longest operating motor racing facility in the world. THE Mile

EDIT: Why don't you folks check your schedules to see if ya can make a SCCA Milwaukee double Regional on THE mile road course Labor day weekend. It was repaved last summer. 1st road race there in a bunch of years. Last road race maybe in the 60's?

If the SCCA raced at Putnam I'd plan on one of the open dates. A local shop has the track reserved for the 20th also but I'm going to skip. I'm instructing at the Rotary Revolution at IRP in April so that should give me a chance to bone up there since it's been 3 years since I've been there.

Dave, if you can negotiate fuel prices below $2.50/gal by the time summer rolls around I might think about driving to Wisconsin.

Johnny, you should stop by some time. My circle of friends are rotary and Mazda nuts. I've currently got an FBT in the garage I'm finishing up for a guy in Louisville. It's got a street ported S4 13B with a PT61 turbo running off a Haltech. It's a pretty sick car. I also built a similar setup that we put in an S5 FC last fall. The turbo Miata I built last year was the first Miata running full sequential injection off a Haltech in the US. Always some cool toy coming or going.
