Ok, so I got a hold of a LSD, but am kind of concerned. I need a 35mm, but think I got a 40mm. Before I say how I came up with that number can I get someone to tell me where I should be measuring?
Thanks

Measure the outside diameter of the "tubes" that stick out from the sides of the diff. The inside of the "tube" is splined to correspond with the half shafts. That outer dia. would be either 35 or 40 mm
I was afraid you where going to say that. I measured and got 40mm. There where no bearings installed so it made it easy.
Thanks.
Send me an email I might have use for that unit.Originally posted by spnkzss:

While we are on the subject, and I have been putting off the LSD purchase for years, '88 CRX SI....35 or 40 mm? Thx in advance.
Civic/CRX Si
88-89: 40mm
90-91: 35mm
Say "Hi," to Tom Fowler for me, Spank. :-P

Why didn't you tell me this information before? I've been scratching my head for awhile trying to find this information out. That means it might work for Kevin. I believe his is all the '89 setup. Remember the whole wiring BS.Originally posted by Gregg:

I didn't tell you because I didn't remember it off the top of my head. I also thought you went to Quaife's web site....
http://www.quaifeamerica.com/differentials...s/diff_apps.htm
Foolish me.... :-P
Jeez Rob,
Take apart the tranny, get out the welder and weld the spider gears together and be done with it.
I am sure that the nine ITC drivers in MARRS could have a meeting and vote on a "Don't ask, Don't tell" policy that we could all live with.
If the "locked" tranny won't work.
cheers

I'm going to know everything I need to know tonight. I have a feeling OPM is my last chance.
Dave,
I don't know that I could handle the pressures of a "Don't ask don't tell" policy. I mean everyone might look at me differently. No one will want me in the showers with them. LOL
The THOUGHT of you in the shower is making my stomach quesy. Please DO NOT bring that subject up ever again.
Can you say "projectile vomiting".
cheers

"Don't ask, Don't tell" it could be the new IT mantra
This whole 35mm/40mm thing has gotten a bit out of hand.
It's pretty well established that the info at the Quaife website is not only unclear, it's flat, outright, WRONG..... but people continue to quote it (I did, too, until I figured out it was wrong), hopefully it didn't lead you to buy a diff for your car before measuring.
I have a couple of 90-91 transmissions, and they're both 40mm.

I have measured and it is 35mm. I have a 40mm out of an Si that I compared it to, along with actuall hard measurements.
What are those transmissions for? Mine is the 4-speed box.

They're Si transmissions, one from a Civic, and one from a CRX.
I think you're stuck with 35mm if it's a 4 speed, but not totally sure.... if you are, the options for an LSD are limited. Did you get an OBX LSD?
AFAIK, OPM or Kaaz are your only options.
Good Luck,
Jon
Unfortunatly, yes I did get the OBX. Luckily it is 40mm so I can send it back. Once I can get the money back from that I can get the OPM. I want to look into the Kaaz a bit more, I just haven't found one yet.
Thanks
