new wheel rule
Read in Sportscar that Rabbit racers will be able to run 15" wheels, if adopted by the powers that be. If a 13" wheel with a 60 series tire has approximately the same radius as a 15" with a 50 series donut, what would be the pros/cons of switching to the larger wheel? It looks like the weight issue is a tradeoff, more or less. While I am showing my ignorance, are true coilovers legal beginning in '05? I thought that I read that they would be, however, a gentleman in the IT biz informed me that coilovers will never be approved for use because the "shock of the week" mindset will set in and $1000 a corner shocks will rear their ugly heads.

Grumpa,
If 15" wheels are allowed for all of IT (6" for B&C, 7" for A&S), it will most likely be due to availability issues (both wheels and tires). And it also looks like true coilover shocks will be allowed, due to the current state of technology. And just an FYI, $1000/corner shocks are already in IT, and have been for several years now.

The new shock rule should allow you to get that down to around $500 a corner, right?

Bilsteins are still the best bang for the buck. True coil-over race dampers specifically made for A1 and A2 VW cars, custom valving is cheap and they bolt right up with no problems. And best of all they are only $200 to $300 per corner.
