Was the driver OK?

(I hope!)

Yes, he was out next lap around and other than being unhappy with the state of the car was doing well. If you liked these pictures you should have seen the view from right behind him. I was about 1 second behind and had a nice front row seat for it all. The in-car video is pretty good too.

That really sucks! It looks like the nose took all of the heavy damage. From past history, and IMO, the Golf/Rabbit seems to have been involved in more rollovers than any other make/model. Any comments on why?

I believe it may be a combination of:
- so many of them actually racing
- high center of gravity
- suspension geometry

Any other reasons?

Actually the roof intrusion was great enough to write-off the cage - there was a fairly significant flat-spot on the passenger-side of the main hoop. The other bars survived without deformation.

The incident occured as a result of a car that spun in the previous turn (5) - the driver of the Golf avoided the incident, putting the left wheels in the infamous Slummit Point mud. While he attempted to turn into 6 gently, the car snapped and carried the car inside the kerbing at turn 6 which started the rollover.

The driver is fine albeit a bit sore. He was at VIR this past weekend hawking parts

Anyone want some Bilstein race struts? He left'em in my trailer...

How did everyone do at ViR this weekend?
My wife said I was sulking all weekend, although I think she was exaggerating.
Who got first in ITB? Sam Moore and his volvo?

That certainly looked like it was no fun at all. Obviously shunted pretty hard before the roll-over. Glad the driver is ok!!!! Sorry to hear that he was selling off all the parts, would seem to indicate that he's done.

Done with Volkswagens but not done racing. Considering that the driver is a Dodge tech, I never quite understood why he built the Golf in the first place. Now that the car is done, he's going to build a Neon which makes more sense all around.

We're hoping Jim get's the Neon done this year, but he doesn't know if $$$ is going to sit right yet. I've done my part in contributing to the fund. Got a full set of matching Borbet's to match my other set now

Hate to "take advantage" of the situation, but one man's junk is another man's gold.

John Wilkins (2002, MARRS) and William Radford (320i, SARRC) shared ITB wins at VIR. I was bitchy about the big push we got when we added camber to the back end but on reflection, I have to be reasonably happy with 9th of 16 cars in class, in a car with NC license and inspection stickers on it...

When did Bill Radford switch to a 320i? He was an '02 guy for a long time.

The post is backwards - the 320i won with Bill Radford driving a 2002. Bill was 3rd until Charlie spun sideways into the wall at Oak Tree.

Duh! Didn't see that it said SARRC next to '320'.
