I'm curious: how is a Megasquirt going to fire off CIS injectors?

Greg - the A2 cars had a running change to digifant electronic injection in 1987 or 88. It is a legal spec line change to update CIS and CIS-E A2s to electronic hardware and use a megasquirt.

BUT - in production class we were successfully using megasquirt to control electronic injectors that were metering fuel at the fuel distributor and feeding that to the CIS lines and injectors. Prod now allows changing the hardware to electronic for CIS cars so we don't do that anymore.

Ah, makes sense. Had me confused there for a sec... I've got plenty of experience with CIS, and (like Strombergs) got to really appreciate the hydromechanical system....but it just can't compete with a good modern EFI. - GA

    I guess that's only for 8V engines?

What about the position acquisition? It's not allowed to install "crank triggers" on engines not so equipped, and I'd be certain that digifant didn't use a toothed crank wheel...... So I think your best solution then would be something like a 12 or 24 tooth wheel on the camshaft, with a gap to determine TDC. It's described on the MegaSquirt forums,
    http://msextra.com/doc/ms3/trigger-wheel.html
    http://www.msextra.com/forums/viewto...?f=101&t=41909
I was reading through this exact thing the other week. "Missing tooth cam wheel" was what I was thinking of..... Of course while not as good as a crank wheel, a 24 tooth camshaft wheel would provide more angular resolution than the stock four bladed vane sensor, and Megasquirt would allow better tuning of the injection map for improved power under the curve.

BTW, anyone know if coil on plug is "allowed" or not for IT? I was wondering if some of the later model VW coil on plug modules could fit earlier engines? Might be a good option to simplifying some complexity going to a MS setup.
