    Default Tires, tires, tires... Help!

    Hi all,

The kid is getting back into my old ITB CRX for a few races.. Went shopping for tires.. Hoosiers are out of the budget, Hankooks on nationwide back order until who knows when, Kumho's an option? Size is 14" wheel. Last ones were 205-55-14 Hankooks and he loved them. Thoughts on anything else?

toyo Proxes RA1 is the only thing I knew of that was available and cheaper than a hoosier, I'm assuming they are still available. Kumho has 14" offerings that are slightly under hoosier costs, and good.

hoosier's SM6 is the best value tire (still expensive but by far the least expensive of the good options), but you need 15" wheels.

I ran Nitto NT-01's in that size (same tire as a Toyo RA1). Very durable but not the grippiest. They say you can get up to 30 cycles out of them but they are only a UTOG 100. The hoosiers/Hankook will be UTOG 40 or less.

If you can fit 205 Hossiers then you can fit 225 of most other tire brands with ease. ITA CRX I have came with 205 Hoosiers so I went with 205/55 R14 for the first set of tires. When I bought tires last year after some research I bought 225/50 R14 Hankook Ventus Z214 C51's (non-autocross tire). Was recommended to the Hankooks by a few other CRX drivers. Tires fit great and performed well.

List up to ~20 heat cycles which is quite a few more than the Hoosiers. The tires had good grip and responded well.

I bought them off tire rack for ~$160 a tire.

And the SM6 Hoosier (on a 15) matches the diameter of a 205-55x14.

All posts are made by a fat old guy with a crappy old car that isnt supported by a factory anymore and therefore should not be taken seriously, EVER

We buy our tires at WalMart 205/50-15 NT-01 $148.00 last all season and go faster as they wear out........

Does BFG make an R1 in your size? They rock for the difference in price to a Hoosier

Are 13s legal for your car?

I put 225-50-14's Hankooks on my 14x6 wheels. They aren't on back-order through Tirerack. Treadzone has them cheaper.

Unfortunately, we (Treadzone) don't have any 14s in stock.

14"? Yes. When I saw this thread the other day, I went and checked stock, so I could chime in if we had them.

We have lots of 15" stuff, and some 13", and a nice variety of 16-19", but that wouldn't have helped the OP, so I stayed quiet.

I figured if I could save someone a phone call or a non-filled order, I would. I try not to do any "selling" on here except under special circumstances.
