NERRC Masters Cup

New England Region Road Racing is introducing an innovative concept for drivers age 55 and older, the Masters Cup. This new end of the year championship is exclusive in the NERRC Series.
The Masters Cup is an end of season award presented to the competitors who are 55 or older and have accumulated the most points in their class during the NERRC race season. The best 10 NERRC races, out of a possible 14, will be counted.

Two champions, one from the close wheel and one from the open wheel division will be crowned. Trophies will also be presented to 2nd and 3rd place finishers.
Tie breaker - Age will be the tie breaker; the oldest driver will be the winner.

To be eligible for the Masters Cup:

1- Driver must be 55years old before January 1 of the current year.
2- Competitors must register with NER Registration once during the season and show official proof of age.
3- Select one class only; this class will remain the only eligible class during the season.

Race groups are divided into two divisions:

Closed Wheels: All IT, GT, Production, All SM, Showrooms stock, AS, B Spec, all Touring,
Open Wheels: All open wheel classes plus Sport Racers and SRF.

You need to combine the age of the car w/ the age of the driver.

This will be an interesting thing to see the results of at the end of the year.

That would make Young 84 in his IT7, and Patten would be pushing 90 in the Datsun 1200

Serge will end up at 89 with the Miata.

second question is: are guys 55 and older really at a disadvantage??

I wonder if the reverse is true: Old guys are at an advantage: More time cause kids are possibly out of school, more $ because 20 somethings aren't in their fattest paycheck years.

More entries is one reason, I hope that this will get a few seniors to dust off the cobwebs and come back to play in this sandbox with a more realistic objective.
Look around and you can observe older drivers that once were running for a championship now mid pack, especially in the more popular classes. A 55 year old person isn't as quick as he/she was at 30. The speed of decline certainly differs with each individual but it still a factor.
This gives us old farts another chance at the brass ring. Now I can't wait to turn 55!
