Default sister cars and spec lines

A recent classification in a Fastrack got me thinking...

In IT and Touring should sister/cousin cars be on the same spec line?

    Firebird/Camaro
    350Z/G35
    Escort/Tracer
    BRZ/FRS

    ETC.

I say no. For a few reasons, but I'm interested to hear your thoughts...

yeah the ITAC and CRB have to be dilligent and knowledgeable enough to keep updates percolating down on such cars, but the difference in standard equipment, body pieces, etc.. would play havoc with the IT "cannot make a model" rules. best to keep them divided.

as a really good case, check the 92-95 civic and del sol in ITB. 4 body styles, all with the same engine and trans, on 4 spec lines (DX 3dr, DX 2 and 4 dr, LX, and Del sol S). the differences here are more subtle than on most of the cars in the list on post 1, yet the decision was made to be pretty "granular" in the classification. I certainly cannot see listing even less similar cars on one line GOING FORWARD, though the ITB mustang and ITS RX7 are examples of pretty mingled up existing spec lines.

    T4 ‐ 1996‐2005 Volkswagen Passat 2.8 V6; ref. 1996‐2001 Audi A4
in T4, Audi A4 V‐6 (96‐01), add the Volkswagen Passat as follows:
    Audi A4 V‐6 (96‐01)
    / Volkswagen Passat 2.8 V6 (96‐05)

Someone screwed the pooch on this one. The 96-97 Passat had the VR6 motor in it and is the B4 chassis. The AUDI V6 didn't get into the Passat until 98 and it is a B5 chassis.
So, no on adding sister/cousin cars on the same spec lines.

Good points. What about the clause that prevents a creation of a model that doesn't exist. Does it not protect things here?

Good catch!! Any others? I am hoping to help fix these issues.
