    Default Where do you buy Hawk brakes?

    We have been a long suporter of Carbotech brake pads but we are branching out simply because the RX8 came with some Hawk brake pads, they worked well, and we need to replace them with a new set for the Enduro this weekend at Watkins Glen... So;

    Where do you buy your Hawk brakes? And do you get an SCCA discount?n suggested compound?

    Depending on brake pad size and weight of car, I typically recommend DTC-60 (mid-level race pad) or DTC-70 (aggressive pad). I am not sure if the HT-10 (less aggressive pad) will give you longevity and at what cost of performance. <shrug>

    wow...that is AGRRESSIVE... we just use Blue in Front, Black in back,
    and I can flat spot all four tires at any speed, literally

    I've been using DTC-60 for almost a decade now. First on Nissan then on the 'Teg. I'm now on Carbotech but the DTC-60 was, for a time, the only pads I could keep in the NX without bending backing plates...I didn't like the -70, too agressive on tip-in and very un-smooth release. - GA

    Been using the DTC-60 for a while now. Was happy with the HT-10 before, but the DTC-60 perform the same (to me) and last longer. I have probably 20hrs on track with one set of DTC-60, and I still have 1/2 the meat left.

    As for suppliers, I get them directly from Hawk using contingency money. however, they sell at full retail price. Other than that, I buy them from Summit. I've spent hours looking around for any better deals using our SCCA discounts, and Summit winds up beating all of them by a couple bucks.

    That said, I haven't bought from RaceShopper in several years. Had very good experiences with them, but simply haven't bought from them in a while. I'd definitely recommend calling them and checking on prices.

    have you seen my '92 rotors and pads? LOL! 9.3" rotors with tiny pads... I needed all stopping power I could get. The blues wear out way too fast. The DTC-60's lasted 4-5 weekend vs the 2-3 with the blues. I use stock Honda OEM pads in the rear so I minimize lock-up.

    I am still trying to not flat-spot tires but for me that more driver than car or pads.

    I know of an RX8 that ran DTC60 front and HT10 rear in Koni Challenge. Never tried that combo but have ran DTC60 all around (with prop valve) on an RX7 and like them.

    I have been well taken care of by Porterfield (purchasing Hawk and Raybestos pads) for a while now.

    You can also get some Hawk stuff through Tire Rack.

    FYI- I had a set of HT-10s that flaked apart due to overheating. Now, I did run a wheel for a few sessions that did not have good airflow characteristics, but I'm still not sure that it wasn't also the pads themselves. They seem to create more heat than other similar pads. I really like their characteristics (overall torque good, progressive initial bite, smooth release- gave me a LOT of confidence) but I'm too concerned about their heat issues to run them again.

    I've used DTC-60 front and HT-10 rear for a while. Have been very happy with that setup.

    Before that, I used HT-10 front and HP+ rear. Only difference I noticed in performance is pad life. rotors still lasted quite a while, and I ever hade overheating/fade problems.
    Then again, I have some pretty huge rotors on my car compared to many IT folks, and wilwood superlites up front. I have quite a bit more brakes than most.

    DTC-60 would be my best guess though modulation is easier in the DTC-60's than the Blue's.

    We ran DTC-60 front/HT-10 rears on all the GA RX8's. Sorry, just saw this thread today.
