    Default 1.8L blocks

I'm no VW expert so that's why I'm asking.

    Can you substitute a 8V 1.8L block for a 16V block?
I know that the 16V block has the oil squirters but other then that how are the blocks different or are they so similar that you can use one for the other?

Lets not get tied up with IT rules as this does not apply in the case.

Blocks are interchangeable but the pistons are completely different. Witht that said I'm not sure how IT rules are about using blocks from out of the body line.

You need a 1.8 block? I have a whole 1.8 engine came out of a running car, will sell cheap.
It is in Lexington, NC, could ship the whole thing or just the block, whatever you need.

The reason I am asking this is that I found an ad on Chicago Craig's List selling a few bare 1.8L blocks that have been overbored 1 MM for $100 each.

Just wondering if it was worth checking out.

I already have a complete spare short block and one spare complete engine although one of the blocks will need to be decked if I use it at some later date.
