At their recent Roundtable meeting, the Northeast Division Council affirmed the recommendation of its National Racing Committee (NRC) to hold two prototype Bonus National races in 2011. A Bonus National race is a new concept developed by the NRC to enhance National Racing in the Northeast Division. It consists of the normal slate of National races plus a second National race on a separate sanction for one of the standard division run groups. The entire event is conducted on a two day weekend. If the two 2011 prototype events run smoothly and are well accepted, the NRC will develop a plan for a full round of Bonus Nationals in the 2012 season.

Both of the prototype events are of interest to ST racers. The first prototype Bonus National will have the Big Bore group (GT1, GT2, GT3, STO, AS and T1) hosted by the Steel Cities Region at their BeaveRun National on 30-31 July. The other prototype Bonus National will have the Small Bore group (EP, FP, HP, GTL and STU) hosted by the Mahoning Valley Region at their Nelson Ledges National on 27-28 August.

This is a great opportunity for competitors to get the equivalent of a double national in a normal two day weekend - two races and an excellent opportunity to bump the Super Touring participation numbers.
