    Default ITR car: S2000 or something else?

    Considering doing something new. Advice?

    Sounds like you experience with the Mustangs tells you the ITR options don't have potential...?

    i dont know, really. i would think they are underpowered and heavy. i know the new t3 mustang v6 is spunky. i was not really thinking about an ITR mustang. I was thinking about something that is already developed that i could plug in and play

    BMW E36 3 series is probably about the closest ITR has to "plug and play".

    The rest will require some luck, development and a prayer they match the specs. Our S2000 handles great but does not make (and probably never will) process power. The 325 E36 is the easy button.

    No, it's the 325 sedan is still the best bet. It'll make hp at the upper end of the rpm band because of its intake manifold.

    Plus another on the E36. That's about as developed as they come...

    If you want to build something slightly less developed and more rare, do the 01-06 E46 with the 2.5L engine. Similar idea as the E36 (same engine?) so most of the work is done, "better" chassis and aero(?), larger brakes, +35 pounds over the E36. Contact the guys at AutoTechnic in New Milford, CT; they've been kicking tail in ITS with E46s for a couple seasons now... - GA

    i always tend to look at the cars on the lighter end of the class that can easily keep tires and brakes underneath them for the entire length of a race.

    i think in ITR that's the Type R, and E36/46. I really like the E46, but it's a lot more money to get the most out of it compared to the others from what i can tell.

    Some additional thoughts on this: the parts are just as avalible for the Z3 roady/coupe as they are for either the e-30 or e-36 sedans. The front end is from the e-36 and the rear is directly from an e-30. Part's avalibility isn't the problem, it's making it work togeather like the e-36 sedan.

    Also, I'm not a believer in the power output of the 2.8 motor either. When a motor with the exact same head and cams, adds 300cc you'd expect it to make more hp not the same. The rpm band is also narrowed by 450rpm as the peak hp is lowered by an intake manifold with narrower runners, smaller plenum volume, and can't be port matched. The compression ratio is also lowered by .3 points, so the motor takes a hit there too.

    Still thinking the best combo is this:

    E46 325 Coupe. Power of the 2.5, slick and beautiful coupe body, the updated E46 rear suspension and the low weight...

    I want to see a 3.8 Camaro! But that doesn't fit the already figured out...

    Porsche 968 or 944 s2. Deep wallet required but I think these cars will run all day up front.

    The BMW is the best choice for the plug and play and are one of the most developed of any car in SCCA. Can't go wrong and not hard to find a built car.

    S2000 or 300zx were very close contenders for me but I like German hardware.

    I doubt you'll see one in ITR; the car is too heavy to make weight, and it would need to hit all the specs (weight & HP) to have any chance in that field. The car really belongs in ITS.

    To the original question; I don't think anything other than the 325 and 944 have really been proven yet, have they? That said, if I had the $$$ to build a full-tilt ITR car I would look hard at the 300ZX.
