    Default Hoosier vs. Hankook width

This past season I was running on some used Hoosiers but for next year I will go for the cheaper Hankooks. I was running 225/50-14's on the front and 205/55-14's on the rears on my Golf. I would like to just order 6 tires for the season and rotate them to last instead of getting two different sizes. I have had some slight rubbing on the rear fenders with the 205/55's, so want to make sure the 225/50's won't rub. I have 20mm spacers all around but don't think thinner spacers would work since the tires would rub on the springs. Looking at different tire sites, a 225/50 Hankook is as wide as a 205/55 Hoosier.
Does anybody have any real world experience doing the same and how were the dimensions? Any problems with rubbing on the rear?

    New Years bump.

I'm guessing that since nobody has replied there isn't anybody that's gone from Hoosier to Hancooks.
So I guess the other way of asking then is anybody running 225/50-14 Hancooks on their VW and have rubbing issues?

I've run them both, same car, same wheels. Didn't measure them, but I didn't notice any significant different vis-a-vis tire clearance...hell, I didn't really have to run significantly different camber or tire pressures...and I'd still be running Kooks if they could provide them throughout the year and still offered the contingency...

That is something I noticed too is that they are special order. Has there been a supply issue with them in the past?

I hate to hate online. But, I've tried running them a few years in a row, and each time by the end of the racing "season" I've not been able to get tires for the October/November events unless I hoard in advance. And what happens is that I ended up with a handful of credits and nowhere to spend them.

I really liked Hankooks. I thought the performance from them was on par with Hoosiers. But in the end I decided that paying more and being able to get them from Indiana any time I needed them, versus getting "they're incoming in a container on a boat from Korea, just please be patient", was the better choice.

Buy and hoard what you need in advance of the season and you'll like the 'Kooks. Want to buy them as you need them and you'll like the Purple Glue.

And this is just one man's opinion.

    Joe @ Treadzone says they've got 500 ( 205/50/15 ) in stock and 600 ( 225/45/15 )

That , and the lowered price of $ 131 per tire ( 205 ) sealed the deal for me.

I'm guessing they will be considerably quicker than the vintage RA1's I ran last weekend

Treadzone shows $162 for the 205/50/15 and $171 for the 225/45/15

Is there a special coupon somewhere to get the $131 price?

Do you know what the lower price is for the 225?

    TIA

When I was buying rains , I asked Joe how much they were and what kind of supply chain they had. Joe went out and looked at the inventory. The next day he sent me an e-mail indicating that they were on special. The 225's were a little higher

    .

    Glenn,

Thanks for letting us know about the website. Getting that fixed.
    Dates on the Z214 225/45ZR15 C51 are 2009 and we have 47.
They are $138.00 each. The 205/50-15 are $131.00.

We have over 600 racing Hankook's (Z214 & RS3), not just that size.

Sorry for confusion in regard to the number of tires in stock ... I was driving during my discussion with Joe ...... Sounds like they have 500-600 in all sizes ... Looking forward to running them next weekend @ MSRH , vs. the RA1's and NT01's I've been running.
