Default fabrication ideas / pics of longer ramps?

my enclosed trailer has the standard rear door and ramp. i have seen a number of trailers with the fold/drop down end of the door with ramps that are 24" to 36" long vs. the ~12" (guess from memory).

i'd like to get to the ~3" long since i sometimes have issues with tow hooks hitting the ramp depending on tire size and how level the area is, etc.

i know i need to raise up the main door somehow so that the ramp will still be properly supported but think i could do that with some short sections of 2" square tubing between the ramp/door and the standard rubber donut/supports.

has any one got pics of changes they made or seen anything interesting?

i was drooling over several trailers and rigs at the run-offs last week........

Not cheap but really well made, no fab required ...

I had one built based off this http://pitproducts.com/4lidiplexra.html - although the shop that fabricated did not do the supports like the picture which caused mine to buckle and become a worthless piece of junk. I'm going to just order one now - they have some other choices, might give you an idea http://pitproducts.com/rampsloading.html

i dropped the ramp the other night and i am thinking i can install a 2" tubing 1/4" wall between the trailer and the 6" wide rubber bumpers. this will allow me to add about 24" of ramp length (from ~ 20" to 44").

the local alro metal place has some 4' by 4' 1/4" diamond plate for $3 per pound. i think i can cut that into 2 - 2'x4' pieces. then cut two sides off on a slight diagonal so i have two "triangles" that are 4' long and taper from 4" to nothing. two bends on each piece and i'll have 16" wide ramps and 4" of elevation.

then take the two "triangle" pieces and put under the ramp and weld in for supports.

that will be about $160 in aluminum. might do the math on 1/8" plate to see if 4 total ribs would be enough to support the car. might need some straps across the bottom to connect the ribs.

or i also saw a set where the guy bolted some wood blocks under the ramps.

i have to admit, these look nice but did not want to spend that much $$
