    Will a tranny out of a 84 fit on a 81? They are both 12a's. Thanks

    Yes, 81-85 are interchangable. '79 will fit but the shifter is in a slightly different spot.

    However, if you are using 5th gear, 81-83 ratio is .825 and 84-85 is .758. That typically makes the 81-83 better for racing applications.
