    Default R200 Diff 280zx Question

I am selling an R200 diff that was in my 260z when I got it. A buyer on ebay asked if it could go in his 83zx.

I am pretty sure it fits but are the stub axles different for the ZX?

    Thanks

Qualified Yes. Yes, it will fit but my ZX has bolt in half shafts, just like the 240/260/280. I don't remember when they changed over to CV half shafts. There have been many debates over the length of the half shafts but If I recall correctly, there is no differences in length.

How goes the car since it was "Jeffed up?"

There is a difference in length of the half shafts on the later ones (those that don't use the bolt flanges). It is a minimal difference & you can get them to install on the wrong sides but the lip seals don't like it.

3.528 or 3.692. I didn't open it to count the teeth. When I counted turns of the input shaft, my estimate came out to 3.62 which I don't believe exist so I assume it is one of these.

So does this explain why the R180 does not fit the diff carrier bar? It had an R200 when Jeff bought it. I bought Jeff's 260z and was attempting to install the diff tonight but the studs on the rear housing were about 1/4" too narrow for the bar. It appears the stud spacing on the diff is about 3 1/4" and on the bar 3 1/2". Anyone have a rear carrier bar for a 260? Or should I grind it a little for clearance and bolt it up.
