    Default Must see video

Not IT but a must see video for anyone who hasn't seen this yet. This happened at Summit Point over Labor Day weekend.

I saw that the other day... can you imagine the horror of sliding to a stop like that? I'd be waiting/dreading the impact of the gravel trap.

Word on the street is that she rented another car and was racing the next day.

Glad that the driver is ok. However, she (I'm guessing it was a 'she' based on other comments) is pretty much 100% to blame for that. Clearly tried to force her way through, where there wasn't enough room. Based on the speed on the guy in the 2nd video, I'm guessing that was a re-start. Hats off to the rookie Triumph driver for just holding his line. And what's the deal w/ the guy in the 2nd video? I tried to determine a flag condition, but couldn't make any of the stations out clearly. Not sure why the car in front slowed, or why the other two by pit in were going so slow. Driver in the 2nd video is lucky his car didn't go over.

Wow, not much of a hole there, and it really closed quickly.

Right after the impact look at the overpass, there are 3 red lights on. It took a couple of views to make it out.

    No..it is yellow/red/yellow (ie. debris).

A red light will never be used alone to stop the session. When a yellow flag condition is indicated, the light represents the beginning of the no passing zone.

Sure looks like that would have been really hard to see for the guy w/ the camera on his car, given how close he was following the car in front.

    Greg,

Is that something new at Summit? I don't ever recall that light there before.

    "B. YELLOW FLAG (Solid Yellow)

STANDING YELLOW -- Take care, Danger, Slow Down, NO PASSING…

WAVED [YELLOW] -- Great Danger, Slow Down, be prepared to stop – NO PASSING…

    D. SURFACE CONDITION FLAG …Take care. Oil has been spilled, or a slippery condition exists, or debris is present on the racing surface… "

I wasn't there, but it seems to me that an immediate and drastic slowing from 95mph to 60mph (look at the telemetry) would be warranted
for a WAVED Yellow (Great Danger), questionable for a STANDING Yellow (Danger), and excessive for a Debris flag. (Take Care)

I'd bet that the form of the warning (lights instead of flag) gave extra unintended emphasis to it, purely because it is less common.

    What is the drivers name?

I'll put money up that she came out of kart racing. They smash their way to the front on a continual basis. Shoving thru holes that dont exist. MM

Actually, we have a lot of respect for her talents. She's been an instructor for BSR, has taught courses in Teen-Age Accident Avoidance, is a great communicator and wins races in a highly competitive class.

I saw the wreck and, happily, Elizabeth was fine.
If you saw Ken Payson's wreck at LRP you'd be shocked.

It's VERY easy to armchair quarterback things like this. What the video doesn't show, and she didn't know, is that there was a reported fourth car on the right. The hole was opening, and she went for it. It then close due to the pressure of the unseen rightmost car.

It's one of those things. I know plenty of guys that the dissenters here respect and they would have done the same thing.
