    Default Mystery Part

I got an 87 ITB prepped Golf in December and among the spare parts was this item. 36" long hollow tube with 4 bolts on either end. Any ideas as to what it is?

    Thanks,
    Chris

Looks like it could be a rear beam stiffener (effectively, a rear sway bar).

Yup. It bolts inside the hollow rear beam, essentially stiffening what is already a "sway bar" per the GCR.

Edit - you have to drill holes.

    +1. Shine, maybe?

(Though, I certainly like Dr Chaos' "interpretation" o swaybars a whole lot better. If'n he gets the cajones to implement it "properly"...just sayin'...)

Speaking of which, do you wanna run the Festival or the ARRC in Pablo, Greg? Send me an email.

It's a rear sway bar. It may be an early version of SRS "Shine racing Service" bar. with the right springs it will make your car feel like it's on rails.

I tracked down Dick Shine (well he found me on another forum) and he confirmed that its a Shine RSB for a Mk1 VW.
