Thread: More door bar questions

    Default More door bar questions

While planning my door bars I am wanting to weigh every option.
If I am reading the SCCA GCR correctly it sounds as though they only require 2 door bars of the specified tubing diameter and wall thickness. It seems as though any extra support or triangulation in non required bars can be any size. Am I reading that correctly?

FWIW I'm not looking to skimp on bars or safety but quite the opposite. I used to race stock cars and had 4 nascar bars that were plated on the outside. I'm trying to find that good balance of safety vs. overkill in my soon to be road race car.

    Thanks in advance
    John

Yes, you're reading it correctly. 2 doorbars must meet the min. req. tubing size. Everything else is open to common sense

Does this just apply to extra door bars? Or can I add extra bars elsewhere in the cage that are smaller than required?

The only bars that have to meet spec are the mandatory bars. Others can be thinner wall and/or smaller diameter--anywhere in the cage. use uncommon sence!
