Are we still tied to the VIN rule?

…I feel ill at how far we have drifted from engineering and automotive integrity. It's not just nostalgia. It's more like sorrow. For a shining moment in human history all our science and engineering blossomed to create the great inventions and designs. Now we engage in techno-masturbation like Twitter and TPMS…

There are no longer any references to VIN anywhere in the ITCS. The entire paragraph that dealt with VIN (in 9.1.3.C) has been removed.

Thanks for the reply. I looked in the new GCR and didn't see the VIN paragraph, either, but then my eyes aren't what they used to be.

Gee, did the price of IT poker just go up with the change of one (1) rule?

Yep, that's just how Production cars got where they are today.

At lease with SM they have some balls & are tightening the rules. Good job SMAC.

Actually it may be a cost savings not have to find a rare tub when building a new car.

No. Ask these guys WHY they're doing what they're doing. Not one of them will say, "Because it's more expensive."

Gee Golly, all it took was one questioning comment about the vin rule change on this site & one of the people who the white horse is has now started a thread to track effect of the vin rule change.
