    Default FC transmission advice needed

I just picked up an '89 RX-7 GXL, and need some help. I can't get the thing to shift into neutral. I can get 5th or R, but I need it to go into neutral (makes it easier to push around). Is this a shifter malfunction or an internal malfunction?

I tried removing the shifter and manually pushing the socket around, still no luck finding neutral.

    Any ideas appreciated.

    Thanks

I would drain the trans and look for little pieces....

I just bought an ITS RX7 and plan on having three transmissions. One in the shop, one one the trailer and one in the car. Having blown up at least 5 in my ITS career....

Internal problem with the shift rods. Sounds like a stuck detent. Drop the 4 bolts from the rear drive shaft flange and drain the trans. Street or race car?

I did sell the ITB car

Seriously, don't know what I'm going to do with it yet. A friend of mine drove it into a sign post and ripped the front right corner off of it. I'm now looking for the following for 89 and later FC:
    Passenger lower control arm
    Rack and pinion
    Passenger fender
    Passenger fender light fixtures
    front bumper cover
Passenger strut assembly (with fact. adj susp), including rubber mount

As for the trans, I think it was damaged when the punks in the impound yard decided to steal the stereo system. They made a mess of the dash, and I suspect they leaned on the shifter so hard they broke something. The crash wasn't hard enough to hurt the trans. The other possibility is that the wrecker dragging the car onto the rollback in gear damaged the tranny. I dunno - that's why I'm seeking advice.

Might have the strut and control arm if you're interested. Possibly a power rack assy also.
