Just yesterday I saw a maron spitfire with gold decals on the side. It looked like it was showroom new.

When Lucus decided to get in the bussiness of making hovers (vacumes for the yanks), theirs was the only product that didn't SUCK.

You mean the same company that invented intermittent wipers, self dimming headlights and four way flashers.

But.... he was told it was worth at least $25-$30K

    Maybe that's really $25.00-$30,000 then it's in the ball-park

BTW, wasn't this one of Bond's cars? Yeah "The Spy Who Loved Me" I guess that's the future of a "Bond" car.

Well, we've found someone who is truly stupid!
He'd be better off playing the lottery. He has a slim to none chance there....

    I am confused

If you were glad to lose.. then why did you bid on the car in the first place... twice?

I understand now. You can look cool in front of your friends with the lotus while secretly loving the honda under the car cover in the garage.

If you think of it that way... why have the mistress?

Cuz, while the wife may be hot, she's cold and uncooperative, while the mistress puts out, because she has to compensate.

(A guy I knew years ago, who was admittedly a bit odd, tried to only date blonds who were "average at best" looking with small boobs. He said he had found that they were always willing to "go the extra mile" so to speak, to make up for their perceived shortcomings. Well whatever works, I guess, LOL)

Now, that X180R shell I actually considered......and fortunately had a moment of rationality and avoided like the plague.

That one has been kicking around in "Lotus land" for a while. It's a 4th shell, never assembled or raced apparently, to the Doc Bundy Esprits that won World Challenge or whatever it was in the early 90s. Pretty cool car, and possibly even actually raceable...........

oh, yeah, baby.... i remember watching the doc bundy x180r lotus racing; doesn't even seem that long ago!!! a really neato car.... i've never seen the 2nd car, that gt300 esprit; stats look impressive, except for the '1100 lbs weight'; that has to be a misprint -- maybe it means 1100 kgs? i'd kill to own/drive an esprit on track someday!

    No it isn't.

Mine was just a ticking time bomb waiting to self destruct. While I liked the car and it was reliable with respect to starting and running, I've never owned a car that would come up with so many novel ways to malfunction. Like one headlight popping up, one window not going down, one fuel door not opening, getting locked inside with no way out, and so on.

I think a previous owner had already let the smoke out of it thus causing the issues.

Usually Kirk is much better than I at parsing extraneous words from his writing, but I'm afraid he failed here:

"Demented British Car Guys" - I think it's hereditary.

My dad always told me that all the MGs and Triumphs sitting on the side of the road were dropped from heaven as a gift. The first person that could make one run got to take it home.

Don't see too many of those gifts any more, but I keep looking...
