    Default Irony

It's ironic, last year we were organizing to go to the ARRC and they were having a major drought in the Atlanta region...

This year, it's all about the gas supply...

What's next, for the 2009 ARRC - air for tires?!?!?

I don't think this one is Butch's fault.
I have no doubt that he'll be able to fix it to everyone's satisfaction, though.

Atlanta is currently suffering from a gas shortage due to the dual hits of Gustav and Ike taking many of the Louisiana and Texas oil refineries off line. That caused an "air bubble" in the pipeline that has only recently begun to be filled. Many/most stations in the area have run out of gas and lines are long at those that do have gas. Been this way since last weekend (Sept 20,21).

It does appear things are getting somewhat better. I heard from a buddy today that many of the "Mom & Pop" stations are reluctant to order full fuel loads at the current inflated prices because they would then be losing money as the supply increases (and prices drop) as deliveries resume and that is slowing the recovery. I read yesterday, howver, that we should be fully "70-80% functional" by Oct 12 at the latest. I expect there will be full supplies and the prices should be back below $4/gallon by ARRC time.

George and I are old buddies and I took his comments in the vein in which they were intended.

some sites are predicting gas at $2.99 by the end of october. hope diesel gets to the $3.50 range.

this is part due to the market being in the dumps....

Good issue to raise. I saw $3.31 today here in Columbus, and quite a bit of it. So exactly how far north is this problem going? Tennessee? Kentucky? Well, hopefully the problem will be resolved by then and we won't have to worry about it. Makes me wonder though, does Road Atlanta have gas?

    Oh HA-HA... VERY funny!!!

Actually, Atlanta's gas situation is recovering quite nicely. Word is that all QT stations in the area will be fully supplied by Friday, plus they've been keeping the price at $3.97 a gallon while others have been well over $4. Barring additional storms, things should certainly be well-supplied by the second weekend in November.

As far as fuel at the track, it is pretty much independent of what's happening on the street. I'll check with the track management after I get back from Topeka (and they get past this little Atlanta Region support event called the Petit LeMans this weekend), but I don't expect to have any problems with race fuel supplies.

FWIW, the Costco in Huntsville (~200 miles west of Kummer-land) runs out of regular every other day. Last price I saw was $3.79 or so. I paid $3.97 for premium last night and bought diesel last weekend at $3.94

Supply is pretty good around most of the Southeast but don't expect every station you stop at to have fuel. There were reports of little to no gas available along I-59 between Chattanooga and B'ham last weekend.
