Oh yeah, I've been eyeballin a 88-89 Sedan locally, hrm. VIN rule?
    :middlefinger:

4.7 FD will work fine. The car is weighted the same as the "regular" 88-91 Civic and CRX Si. The bare shell and cage before paint weighed in at 733#'s. With all the parts back on the car and a little fuel, it should weigh in right at or just under the min weight of 2250. Figure it this way, my CRX had all it's undercoating and needed 50lbs of lead, 20lbs of spare tire, and about 5 gallons (35lbs) of fuel to meet min weight. That's a total of something like 120-125#'s of weight that the Sedan won't need.

I believe that the VIN rule is set to go into effect for 2009. The chassis would be fine with the exception of bolt on parts like the master cylinder, front spindles, proportioning valve, front calipers. I know some others have looked at taking advantage of the VIN rule and building a similar car.

Yeah, Schimmel did a good job fitting it in there and making sure it wouldn't go anywhere.

Well, slight delay with the painter (death in the family). The base white is done and the suspension is starting to go back on. Should be a roller in the next couple days.

Good news is that everything looks great so far! Bad news is that it won't be ready for the SIC test day. A simple case of not enough time to have it all done right. At this point it makes much more sense to take a couple weeks more and have the car 100% for it's first outing. I'd hate to rush and miss something then have problems on track.

Possibly... VIR is a serious haul for me. I'm down in FL but the car is in NC.

A combination of new and painted. The uprights, hubs, bearings, upper control arm/balljoint assembly, and tie rods are all new. The radius rod, subframe, lower shock fork, and LCA have all been stripped and painted.

We hit a few painter related snags but here is the update!

    Mmmmmm... nice!

    Damn, that's clean!

    Beautiful looking (IMO)!!

The final product is a result of a local painter doing the tub/cage and Tom Landock of Kernersville, NC doing the exterior paint. A completely top-notch job by CMS and their painters!!

Christian, who's gonna feel kinda guilty after the first door donut.

    Hi Steven,

Thanks!! That was the "goal" with this build... 100% thorough and done "right" the first time.

I'm not sure the exact cost on paint per quart but can check it out and get back... in the meantime, here are a few more pics:

During body work and final prep:

Dont' worry about the price. Teh car is just beuatiful.. possilby a new color for the next fox body drag car I build.

I currently spent all day painting the interior of our ITA civic coupe. I feel there pain. I look like big bird.. yellow from head to toe.

Default Honda Sedan Build up .

    Very nice , clean .
I don't know if any of you guys know Edwin Ho from Detroit Michigan . But he ran the ARRC several years ago in an ITC 4th gen Civic Hatch that had the "same" color blue paint on it . Also a very well prepped car .
In fact he won the 3 hr enduro back in 05 I think .
Keep up the great work . I can't wait to see the finished product .

I haven't pulled an honda engine from the top in a long time. I am glad that some one still does it the old fashion way. This build is exceptionally clean. I like it.

Hmmm... I know Edwin's name but never saw the car. There's another car in the SE... GTL Scirroco I believe that has a very similar color off the Acura RSX's.

I've never tried dropping it out the bottom but have heard of plenty of other folks doing it that way... guess an old-school car needs some old-school wrenching

With the transmission bolted inplace it is an art that has been developed at the junkyard. A jack and a 4x4 to jack the car off the drive train and suspension. With another person I can usually have the motor, tranny and suspension out in an hour or so with tools in my bag for the junkyard.

I can't wait to see this car in action. I purposely pulled Chip O'toole away from his tasks to see your build. Is there an expected completion date? Fist time on track PDX? HDPE? Regional Race?

Sounds like you've got engine pulling down to an art

Chip? Have I met him at the track? No "final" date for the car... plans originally were for September-ish but some delays put that behind schedule. Realistically, the car should be wrapped up sometime December-January timeframe. I'll have to look and see what events are going to be on the calendar in 09 and what my schedule looks like.

Yeah you have met him.. his car should be finished soon. He will be working tech with his dad Herb at the ARRC.

Hopefully he will be dropping off a 240sx and picking up a GTI on the way home.
