    Default Fuel Cell Metal Can

Not to re-hash the FIA/SFI/Rotary molded debate...

If I use a fuel cell enclosed in a metal container in the hatch area of my car, does the metal can constitute a "bulkhead" or must the entire hatch area be isolated or closed-off with sheet metal?

    Thanks,

    Todd

You still need a bulkhead to separate the fill cap and fitting connections form the cabin.

    Thanks Dick,

So the can itself serves as a bulkhead?
So I just need to enclose or cover the opening?

    Thanks again,

    Todd

I would not say that. I think the tech inspectors will consider the metal can to be part of the cell so the bulkhead should separate that cell from the cabin.
Sorry if I was not clear.

Todd, to support what Dick is saying please read rule GCR 9.3.26.1. & GCR 9.3.26.1.a.

If you would continue to use the OEM fuel tank please see rule ITCS 9.1.3.9.E.

    Thanks everyone for the help.

Considering the T&E involved with a fuel cell , I'm going to repair (seal) my OEM tank. A fuel cell underneath will not be higher than 6" off the ground.
It will require a lot off sheet metal work to move the cell "up" or inside the vehicle.
A weekend with a sealant kit will be a lot easier.

    Thanks again,

    Todd
