    Default in-car radio equipment question

A quick stupid question to those who know... though I'm already using an FRS setup in-car, I'm partially enquiring for a fellow racer, partially for me in case I might upgrade...

What kind of licensing considerations, etc, need to be taken into account if using the VHF or UHF radio setups - be they the pre-packaged setups sold online like Sampson's, or if I just pick up a few clearance items off of evilBay? Seems like there's some ability to use these things for business use, pretty casually... is that just maybe 5W and below, or something?

Side question as well - is the consensus that, for most tracks with elevations (say, for example, Road Atlanta), VHF will give a little better range/quality over UHF (given the same power output)?

GMRS is a better bet and licensing not really an issue. Google GMRS for more detail. IMO, a decent UHF set-up with proper antenna at the base (pits) end, will work at any track. Used Motorola Radius radios are a good value, rugged and decent quality.
