Thought that this might be of interest to y'all.

Car is growing up into an ITA car for this coming year and got a Chris howard cage installed (BTW... when you see how much head room he gives you... you will want one). Anyway... roughly 30 inches of snow in 10 days, 17 degrees, and a day off... gotts get biz-E.

    check the links...

    Insane!

Of course, you used the thick 5 mil stuff for its insulating value, right?

The neighbors must LOVE you when the wind starts blowing!

The season hasn't started, but you are a shoe in for the hard luck/most dedicated award!

    Now that's dedication!

The freezing fingers and the frustrations of the build will be distant memories when you're on the false grid with the car for the first time.

    Good luck!

Gheez!!!! At least slope to roof so you don't get a build up of snow or ice! Were you ever a cub scout?

Was I a cub scout? Hells yeah... dominated the pine wood derby big time!!!

I knew we had clear weather for a few days and needed a bit of a vent for the propane.

For today's trick... anyone ever try to put a dash back in with one set of frozen hands. Geez I made a mess of the part that works around the the A pillar bar. Please do not laugh... it is the best that I could do on my own.

HAve you considered renting a storage unit? Some of them are big enough to work in.

+1 on the amount of room Chris can fabricate inside a Miata. I'm 6'2", and he found more room than I ever thought possible inside the thing. And plus about eleventy seven on the quality of his work - I had the occasion to test the integrity of his cage in October in a slow roll at LRP, and it's probably what saved the car from being a loss. Oh, yeah, and it protected my ass as well.

Ok... with more help that I can imagine... black betty has an engine.

Drive shaft bolts went in at 6:55 PM, bitch black, 20 degree (= or -)... now I have to figure out a whole string of vacuum lines and a few connectors that I do not know where they go...

Anyone ever try to wrestle with the coil wires at 20 degress? This is nuts and every day I accomplish three things and two get added to the list.

Engine looks good. Amazing what a little time with a wire wheel , nitros, and a rattle can can to do for a 13 year old engine....

    Getting there...

I know you were doing work outside under some plastic covering - is all of this work still being done outside? I know the title of the tread is with no garage, but you can't truly be that nuts, can you?

Where about in New England are you located? (I'm in Newington, CT)

    Is this an ITB VW?

I'll verify ... he's crazy. It's all outdoors. A true New Englander.

My favorite part is that he does most of this stuff after work in the dark and freezing cold with an LED headlamp. Now THAT'S dedication!

That heater looks quite a bit larger than the stock Miata one.
    I don't believe it's IT legal.

ITA Miata it is... and I would definitely take you up on the garage space. Not so bad... but everything is just soooooo slow with the ground either wet or frozen and my fingers not moveable. Gotta "gear up" for simple stuff.

Looking forward to the NHIS school in April!

Good meeting and racing with you at the school. I thought you were quick. I didn’t get to see you after the permit books were handed out. How did it go?

Yeah, I didn't get it at first either. That's the problem with people who use a screen name and no signature!!

It should be manditory here that everyone supply thier complete name, what kind of car and where they're from!!
