...if I can bloody well help it.

I've resigned myself to the fact that SCCA is putting its own interests ahead of my safety so I'm shopping for a new suit. Anyone know of US retailers who sell suits with FIA homologation but WITHOUT SFI patches?

I have a 2003 OMP that has the FIA 2000 label that is legal, and no SFI patch. OMP still label this way guys? If so, Kirk, I think that is what you want. My new SPARCO is FIA 2000 but has the SFI patch as well.

I have an OMP that I bought in Dec of 04 with the legal FIA patch and no SFI patch.

    I like it.

Anyone know if you can race NASA without the SFI crap?

    Kirk,

Subesports, WineCountryMotorsports and Driving Impressions all had the OMP suit I wanted at the time, no SFI patches on mine.

In the end, I bought mine through an importer that had an arrangement with DemonTweeks (UK) because they sponsored the Rally Car I serviced. After paying the exchange rate and taxes my suit was still about $300 cheaper than any of the 3 above wanted (~$700 vs ~$1000)....not sure with the exchange rate today.

Should be. At least I did in 03/04 with an FIA only Sparco.

...which would cost about $20 less without the SFI tag.

I can get "legal" for cheap, no problem. This is symbolic.

Damn, that stinks. So I have to have a HANS to race NASA? Don't suppose I'll be testing with NASA then.

Isn't it still a "MAY" require? I am betting NASA hears the message loud and clear and doesn't do this.

No, the rule has been made..it was an advisory, but the current wording is "will" or "shall" or similar. It's now cast in stone.

Dave Gran was dragging me to hyperfest this year. (OK, not really "dragging") but now that and all other NASA events are absolutley out.

NASA Requirements: Drivers suit SFI 3.2A/1 or Higher OR FIA 8856-2000, FIA NORME 1986/1986, or FIA
    8856-1986.

SFI NOT required on drivers suit.

H&N : On the H&N Restraint, it's written into the NASA rules to become mandatory that on June 2, 2008 a SFI 38.1 certified H&N system be used. They had that in the rules to go into effect last year, June of 2007 and it didn't. Who knows if it will actually go into effect or get amended/revised/canceled just like last year. I'd say it's a coin toss right now. HANS is not the only SFI option http://www.sfifoundation.com/manuf.html#38.1

So, if Kubica invents a new H&N restraint and gets it FIA certified you cannot use it in NASA? That makes no sense at all.

If they mandate something it should be any "certified " product. Period.

Im really wondering why i bought a race car now. I just want to race, have fun, and be safe. These sanctioning bodies are puting way to much time and effort into their political, business, babble bullshit. ANyone want to buy a nicely put together ITB vw?
