How much more reliable is the SR20DE than any other motor in ITA? Is it a worthy inversion to start racing?

    Thanks,

    How...reliable is the SR20DE...?[/b]
Very. As long as you maintain them, they'll run forever. The only engines I've failed were due to a faulty rod bolt, and from melting pistons due to running too much timing and not enough fuel.

In fact, I accidentally revved mine to 10,317.04 RPM (or thereabouts) at the ARRC; the guys replaced a couple of broken rocker arms and we were back on track...

Other than complete stupidity/neglect they are great.

Don't try to auto-cross them down 2 qts oil.
Don't drive them with a dented oil pan.

    On a similar subject:

Why is the '87-91 Pulsar NX still classified in ITA with a 1600cc engine when the B13 Sentra was lowered to ITB?
    1. Could it be that it has better gearing options?
    2. Does it have the same GA16DE than the B13 Sentra?
    3. If both cars were iqually competitive in ITA, wich motor would be a better one, SR20DE or GA16DE?

    Thanks,

Probably because no one's requested it.

    I believe it does.

The GA16 doesn't have an ice cream cone's chance in hell in ITA.

well I hang around the 'drift scene' here in socal. and i have noticed many of the sr20det tend to burn bearings quite often (using the rwd 17mm bearings) now i noticed guys are not listening to the fsm for clearances on the bearings, being that they are too tight. and now guys are using the fwd 19mm bearings.

Here's a thread that better explains things

We use Clevite off-the-shelf bearings. For clearance info you can pay Matt (http://www.kesslerengineering.com/), but whenever I ask all I get is "it's an engine. Nothing magical about it." *NEVER* burned a rod bearing. Ever. In fact, we've even been known to re-use them at rebuilds.

We're putting down 155 wheel horsepower on a DynaPack using stock cams, and I just accidentally zipped the engine to 10,300 RPM (normally shift at 7300-ish). So it's not the duty cycle.

BTW, the biggest reason street engines spin rod bearings is due to lack of maintenance. 100% of the dead engines we have bought for parts have obvious evidence of lack of regular oil changes. I've never heard of anyone that properly maintains the engine spinning bearings.

Sounds like some people just aren't doing things right... - GA

    135,000 mile original motor.
Autocross duty as well as street for past 8 years.
Add club racing the past 3 years as well.
Always regular maintenance and oil / filter changes.
    No bearing issues. Whatsoever.
