"...Weber carburetor(s) with swaged fuel inlet fitting shall be replaced by drilling and tapping the carburetor body for a threaded fitting."

Does this mean that specificaaly an AN- fitting must be used? or can a barbed NPT (same fitting on the fuel pump) be screwed into the carb and fuel line clamped to it?

My carb has the stock brass inlet, I assume this is the swaged inlet referred to in the rule.

    Thanks,

    Todd

The barbed fitting is OK. Just has to be threaded into the carb itself.

Is this rule for safety in the event the stock inlet become loose?
I have tried to removed the stock inlet.
You can not pull it loose with vise grips. It finall broke off.
I guess I will have to drill and tap now

    Thanks,

Yep. Drill out the remnants and tap.

I have never seen a swagged fitting loosen (and I have a ton of Webers), but I suspect it must have happened once to someone ages ago with fire consequences, so that is why it is in the rule book.

I had one come apart on a street car years ago. Yes, the consequence was a substantial fire!

I also had one of the stock ones pop off - Not sure how the car didn't catch on fire.

But if I remember correctly, the hole it left (at least in a dgv 32/36) was the right size for the 1/8 pipe tap. But mine didn't break off.

It was a pretty simple job.

11/32" drill bit and 1/8 NPT tap.

    Thanks for the help.
