    What brake pads are available for the CRX?
    Are Carbotech and Porterfield the only options?

    We only us Hawk Blue Pads for the front and OEM for the rear.

    Also if you look on my site, I and now offering Titanium Front Brake Pad Insulators for Honda and Acura. This is a new item that we tested reciently and the heat transfer reduction was great.

    Sorry, but I focus on speciality parts, I know the 88 & above CRX are not hard to find, but the early stuff might be difficult.

    I normally run Hawk Blue's front and factory rear. This year I switched to Hawk HT10's in the front. They do look like they will last slightly longer however I think they are not as good as the Blue's. I seem to have a little too much front bias now so I will be switching back to Blue's in the front.

    Call and talk to Chris or Dan at Carbotech. I use carbotech on both GTL and the GP Civics (all 84-87) My son in law Chris will testify that the onlything that stopped his GP Civic better than the Carbotech pads was the concrete wall at HPT

    Seriously, I have tried a lot of compounds and pads and I get the most consistant results and long life out of the Carbotechs

    Another great pad is the Raybestos ST40 series pads from Porterfield. They are designed for 4000# stockcars.

    I could never get Carbotechs to work on my car other than at 'easy' tracks like IRP or Mid-Ohio. They offer two compounds...ST41 & ST43. The softer compound (ST43) works quite well for most tracks, but if you run a brake killer track like Blackhawk, you'll want to run the ST41's.

    They are pricey, but they last about twice as long as Hawk Blues so in the long run they are more cost effective.

    In looking at Porterfields, they make a full race R4 compound and also a R4-1 for vintage racing.
    with a light, slow ITC car could the vintage pads be better?

    i saw greg's pads/rotors at Mid-Ohio (last year Runoffs were there) and was quite impressed.

    i ran the raybestos this year and was Very impressed. ran 3 nasa weekends and 1.5 scca weekends and the pads are about 50% gone.

    they are now my pad of choice unless there is contingency stuff going on.

    i will also say that i have always been impressed with Carbotech's assistance in that they will ask questions about:

    what car is it?
    what does it weigh?
    what is your style?
    what mods to the car?
    do you have brake cooling?
    etc.

    the pads are part of a system. Carbotech wants to know more of the system before they want to ship you pads. as of a couple of years ago, they were not selling with a shopping cart via the internet cause they want to make sure you get the right stuff.

    i have a 1985-6 ish CRX Si running at 2150 #'s in ITB or 2020 #'s in H5 (both are with driver)

    1986 CRX Si competed in: SCCA Solo II CSP, SCCA ITA, SCCA ITB, NASA H5
    1988 CRX Si competed in ITA & STL
