It's a long, sad story (and MY fault, I think) but when we broiled the clutch diff in the Golf, it got scalding hot and the case appears to have grown enough that the steel parts quit hanging out where they should inside the aluminum parts. The net result is that I hurt my nearly brand-new 4.25 final drive so I need another one.

    Any leads appreciated.

AVX trans is sold as a unit. Sorry. VW does not show that gear at my dealer. Long motors in CA. may have a gear set. Is this for a hill climb or Production car?
    Good luck. MM

It's for the MkIII ITB car. Thanks for checking, Mike. Conover's got the same price from a local source, so that's our fallback plan.

Thanks, all. Keep your eyes open though...

There is an oem part number, but last time I spoke to my buddy at the dealer that was one expensive gearset.

With racer's discount, the 4.25 R&P is usually a tad under $500 from the dealer. It's from the AVX box in the Eco-Diesel (early 90's Jetta Mk2 turbo-diesel). I only wish I could find a 5.25 for that price.
