2nd Gen Rear Caliber Piston

Putting in new brakes. The FSM says to use a special tool to turn the piston clockwise. Don't have the tool, and neither caliper's piston will budge. It's almost in far enough to clear the pads, but not quite. What am I missing?

I have a rear brake tool like this one:

It snaps on a 3/8" drive rachet. The tits are different on each face of the cube, there is at least one that fits the rear piston. Advance Auto Parts or Autozone should carry the tool.

Yes you need the tool. If you do work on other cars that require the tool there is a kit that gives you several sizes to fit various autos. Good investment and not much money.

Marty, I have been able to turn the piston on the 1st gen rear caliper with a needle nose pliers using each clamp end/tit as the tits on the tools others have shown.

I did it that way the first few times. The down side is that WHEN it slips, it hurts

If you plan on never using the park brake again pull the piston out and remove the screw drive behind it that operates the park brake. Only takes a few minutes and next time you change pads all you have to do is push the piston back in by hand or with your favorite c-clamp.

I use the parking brake a lot. I'll see what Autozone's got tomorrow.
