Thread: ring&pinion mix&match?

    Is it possible to use a ring gear from one set with a pinion from another set to achieve an otherwise unavailable ratio, and have any chance of it actually surviving a few races? This is for a transverse FWD application (parallel axis orientation) in case that makes a difference.

    Only if you like metal particles in your tranny Seriously, the tooth spacing must be identical for both gears to work in harmony....very doubtful that a mix will go there. CB

    r/p are machined as a matched set. they are designed to work with each other and nobody else.

    Can't do it. Really *shouldn't* mix&match R&P even if the same ratio...
