I ordered a new pair of shoes through a local shop but the manf. date on them is Apr. '02. I don't care as long as SCCA doesn't have a expiration rule on shoes like they do everything else. Do they?

Wow! Not to my knowledge. Racing quick starts are so thin in the tread area that they usually give you notice when they are about to blow out. I've got two pair (same with hoods, gloves, socks, etc.) just in case, but I never knew that shoes had an expiration date. I don't think there's anything in the GCR about it...just belts and helmets. Keep it quiet, though. Someone might get the idea to include it in the rules. :026:

A lot of items today that can be subjected to extreme use (or abuse) are dated (or numbered) merely to provide the manufacturer w/a reference should they have need for a recall. And there might be some non-US markets where the sanctioning body does require shoes to be dated. So rather than pick or chose which shoes to date, the manufacturer merely dates 'em all.
Good. I knew they dated seats, helmets, and belts so I wasn't sure.
