Interior panels

My car is looking pretty good after the paint and I was looking at the interior. Would I be allowed to fill in the openings with aluminum? It is a cosmetic fix but as I read the rules it says I can do that to the door panel only...nothing about the rest of the interior. I would hate to have a DQ because of a cosmetic issue I am talking abut behind the doors where the interior metal work is exposed thru to the outer panels. Any info is appreciated!

The general interpretation by us is "no". My doors are covered as is the left side of the interior behind the driver. The rule says that the fuel neck to the tank (unless you run a cell) has to be covered by the interior panel or the required thickness of sheet metal. We just stuck the cheapass plastic panel back in to adhere to the rules. The other side is open. I did clean it up and paint it to match the interior. Gary's is done the same way.

I guess under the "if it doesn't say you can, than you can't" context, I doubt it would be legal. Still though, if someone protested you for it and you punched that person, I'd understand.

the guy that painted my car is a retired fabricator type...he looked and wanted to do it...he went so far as to make cardboard triangles that match the holes in the interior so he had custom templates to do it! I said let me check at NS (Nerd Central)...

I covered the interior openings in my car with color-matching trimmed sheets of decal vinyl...use those nice custom templates for vinyl instead. - GA

Why would you want to cover the interior openings? Just cosmetics? Won't that add weight? Plus, make it more difficult to push dents back out?

My thoughts, too. And Evan, you do get dents...even when I'm not driving!

Mainly cosmetics, easier to clean and I dont do the bodywork
