2 February 2006: The Washington DC Region of the Sports Car Club of America announced today that it would accept entries for the 8th Annual Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point, an endurance race for sports cars and sedans, starting at 1PM, 8February2006. The June 23-24, 2006 event is held at Summit Point Raceway in Summit Point, WV. The grueling once-around-the-clock race is the longest perennially held amateur endurance event sanctioned by SCCA.

“Because of the overwhelming demand we have seen for space in the race, the Region has made significant changes to the entry procedure this year. We heard of several people who entered with the expressed intent of selling their coveted spot and we wanted to stop that,” said one Region official. According to the official, “This year, entrants are limited to a single entry and the entrant must drive the car during the event.” The intent of this rule change is to prevent shadow entries and keep the grassroots racing tradition to the race.

“We’ve been a victim of our own success,” said Jeff Janoska, PR Director for the Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point. Janoska added, “The fifty-five entry slots were filling within minutes of entries opening and many of those were from people with no intent to drive in the event. We think that we have found a solution to the problem and we haven’t heard too much complaining about the new rule.”

Like all SCCA races at Summit Point, the Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point will take place rain or shine and is open to spectators. For more information and the latest news, please visit www.12hoursatthepoint.net.
