    Highlights and the press release....

    - Entries will be accepted no earlier than 1:00 PM on February 8, 2006 and only via the WDCR Online Registration System (ORS) at dlbracing.com. Full payment of the $800 entry fee will be taken by credit card when the entry is submitted online.

    - The Entrant for each team must be a driver on that team and drive in the event in that car. Failure to comply will result in disqualification.

    - No driver may be on more than one Team. If a team is permanently and OFFICIALLY withdrawn, a driver from that team may be a relief driver for another team AFTER the change has been approved by the Chief Steward.

2 February 2006: The Washington DC Region of the Sports Car Club of America announced today that it would accept entries for the 8th Annual Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point, an endurance race for sports cars and sedans, starting at 1PM, 8February2006. The June 23-24, 2006 event is held at Summit Point Raceway in Summit Point, WV. The grueling once-around-the-clock race is the longest perennially held amateur endurance event sanctioned by SCCA.

“Because of the overwhelming demand we have seen for space in the race, the Region has made significant changes to the entry procedure this year. We heard of several people who entered with the expressed intent of selling their coveted spot and we wanted to stop that,” said one Region official. According to the official, “This year, entrants are limited to a single entry and the entrant must drive the car during the event.” The intent of this rule change is to prevent shadow entries and keep the grassroots racing tradition to the race.

“We’ve been a victim of our own success,” said Jeff Janoska, PR Director for the Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point. Janoska added, “The fifty-five entry slots were filling within minutes of entries opening and many of those were from people with no intent to drive in the event. We think that we have found a solution to the problem and we haven’t heard too much complaining about the new rule.”

Like all SCCA races at Summit Point, the Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point will take place rain or shine and is open to spectators. For more information and the latest news, please visit www.12hoursatthepoint.net.

The June 16-17, 2006 event is held at Summit Point Raceway in Summit Point, WV.

The Supps say that the event is June 23-24 2006. Which is the correct date?

According to the SP website schedule its June 23rd-24 like the supps say. Since they list Friday 6/16/06 as open practice I am going to side with the latter date.

Sorry - I don't think an event can be on a date other than the one indicated in the supps.

Yes, I had the wrong date. Would you believe that this was a test to see if people pay attention to the rpes releases?

55 entries as of 1:35 EST, only 35 minutes after the starting gun...you snooze, you lost.

If I had understood that the system would have taken our entry without all of the requested information, we would have been in quicker than number 12 in line.

Regardless, the PhilsTireService.com Team GTI effort is one of four ITB entries, of the 55 listed as official. Drivers will be familiar to all regular IT.com visitors - Greg Amy, Jeff Lawton, Phil Phillips, and myself - as will key members of the crew Cameron Conover, Bill Miller, and (we hope) Lee Grimes of KONI, reprising his role as pit wall guru.

Support also comes from our friends at Bildon Motorsport, including parts for the new engine build and repair of the chassis I rounded off at Rally Tennessee. A new cage from Competition Cages (Hillsborough, NC) holds the new tub together and keeps the four pilots safe.

Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point Field Fills in Record Time!

8 February 2006: If you were thinking about entering the 8th Annual Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point, then you had best hope that someone from your team already submitted an entry. At 1PM today, the Region accepted the first entry for the June 23-24, 2006 endurance race for sports cars and sedans. Less than 35 minutes later, the field of 55 had been filled and the first wait-list entry had been accepted.

"The electronic entry procedure worked fantastic," said a DC Region official. This year’s 12 Hours at the Point marked the first time that the historic race would accept electronic entries only. According to the official, "the demand for this year’s 12 Hour exceeded what I expected. That we filled the field in a little over thirty minutes is a testament to the popularity of this event and the sport given to us by Kumho Tires."

"If you were late getting into the 12 Hour, there still is some hope for you," said Jeff Janoska. "We have room for a few additional wait list teams and some of the folks who entered may have cold feet. I wouldn’t bet the farm on it happening though," added Janoska.

Like all SCCA races at Summit Point, the Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point will take place rain or shine and is open to spectators. For more information and the latest news, please visit www.12hoursatthepoint.net.

I just hope you didn't lose any hair over it...

BTW - did anyone notice the Cefalos are running in ITA and ITS? Hopefully they won't hold an encore performance of the Runoffs qualifying incident.

I'll be back at it one more time this year with the CRX, which now belongs to Doug Case and Dave Hoffman, it will be sporting a new paint job, so if you see a non-white CRX tapping you in the bumper, please get out of my way..java script:emoticon('', 'smid_19&#39

You know I could have gone the rest of 2006 without hearing any comments like that.
I am sure that Marc Cefalo will not allow that to happen again.

Remember we all make mistakes, and hopefully we all learn from them.

With the cool new paint going on the Golf, the rule is that there will be no crashing or body contact allowed at the Summit 12 hours this year - by anyone. Just so you all can plan accordingly. Thank you.

    K,

That sounds like a challenge. How about a prize for the guy that can show the most paint transfer? I'm sure we could get a bodyshop to put up some sponsorship dollars.
