After offical race impound, the top two Acura's were escorted to the MSN trailer,
The drivers had agreed to to sign up for our contingency for the NARRC, a few
club members were present including Greg Amy, Matt Kessler,Jake Gulick,Jason
Adamski and Myself. and both drivers. Here are the results:

The compliance check included, a borsoscope view of pistons, camshaft lift check,
at valve, visual inspection of cam parts #'s & stamps, valve springs, retainers, and compression test.

Rich Hunter 1st place passed $1000.00

Enrick Benazic 2nd place passed $500.00

Good job guys, and nice clean racing!

I actually think it's a great thing. When I head to ITA next year, I know there will be some self-policing.

Nice Idea Anthony.
Very nice of you to contribute to the event. And Nice of you to pull out. We know it was the rain and your car did`nt want to get wet. Or Wrecked. So why did the 3rd place winner who runs fast all the time not want some monies. I`m not saying that person cheated but I am aloud a thought and last time I checked we have free speech right or wrong. Had I been part of that I sure would have collected I have nothing to hide. By the way Tom I came in 7th with your motor and beat all the others in your awards program. Thats 2. Was this 1 $200.00 in rewards. I`m sure I`ll need something for the spring and yes everything ran well. Sorry Anthony for talking to Tom on your thread But as you know I conduct BUS. With you both. And again congrads to Hunter with an amazing drive in the down poor. And a proved legal motor. I chose the wrong rain tire for cold weather. No grip. So Ray and I just tryed not to spin out. It worked, no mud.
But a little of what Tom is getting 2 is. Cheaters who know who they are as so do the rest of use. Some people go to sleep with the idea that they did something increadible with an Ilegal race car. Not talking about a wrong size catch can or something that really changes the handling or performance of power. Why not be man or women enough to go legal. This is a club and designed for fun and doing the best you can with your resorces and Balls. To any cheaters out there reading this would you want your children lying to you or to cheat in school to just get a grade with nothing learned. Then your not a honest person and if it gets to you then oh well no pitty. Look racing always has and will have cheating. NASCAR, GO-karts Baseball. Hey I don`t know much about cars but the signs are like right there. If you blow up all the time and break CV joints and blow smoke in the morning runs. Something is not right. But I would like to hear Y the 3rd place finisher decieded not to get his car checked. Maybe Cheating????? Or the weather was bad. Or maybe decieded to not try to win some monies after all are sport is so cheap to run that were all so wealthy we can let monies that we won just go away.
Are maybe I`m full of it.

I feel better now.

I have to say, I think the compliance check was awesome.

yes, there could be an issue with conflict of interest, but Anthony was totally cool having anyone hang around asking questions and watching. And it's not like Matt Kessler doesn't know his way around a race engine!

The only suggestion I would make is (and this might have been done and I wasn't paying close enough attention), that MSN have a disinterested third party observe the procedure to avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest.

I think that this was awesome. Just great! I am SO happy someone stepped up to the plate and actually DID something.

I have to say (and yes the conditions sucked) that I was very disappointed that tech didn't bother weighing certain classes. A championship event with double points! it's tough to build competitor respect when the officials are so obviously uninterested. Sorry if that sounds harsh, as I don't know the circumstances, but I was pretty saddened.

I also missed the third place finisher...can someone point me to the results? Or just give me 3 -5 here??

Hey Scott and all, yes you have the right to your opinions.
The reason that the 3rd place finisher (me) did not get checked by MSN, was because I chose not to participate in their contingency, which would have required me to place the big MECHANIC SHOP NORTH banners across my car. I believe in the contingency program that we are trying to do here at the NARRC, and appreciate all the businesses that offered prizes/money. I did participate in select programs.
HOWEVER, my main sponsor is Acura of Peabody, and by displaying their name prominently on my car during the season and this great year-end race, I was guaranteed a prize of $285 (entry fee), no matter what place I finished, or if I finished at all. That is why I didn't participate in many of the other contingency programs, because I don't use their products or services. So no, I didn't do Phil's (never bought tires from him, but run Hoosiers and get the national Hoosier contingencies when I'm lucky enough), not SMBS, or Issac, etc. Again, I do appreciate businesses participating and want it to continue next year.

Please, I am not afraid of a teardown. I have told everyone what I have under the hood. You are free to come to my garage anytime and take it apart, and you'd be able to tell that I haven't taken off the head since 1998 (let alone since the race on Saturday). I have never had a DNF in the 4 years that I have been racing SCCA, almost 40 races, and I'm proud of that.
Funny thing the rain does to racing, it's almost an equalizer for the cars, because horsepower doesn't always win. I think driver skill comes in there somewhere. Just look at the low horspower ITCs that beat many of the ITAs on Saturday!?
And back to me, the 3rd place finisher. So I must have sandbagged all the qualifying sessions on Friday? Because if you look at the grid, I was more than 2 seconds slower than the frontrunners, and who likes to start 10th on the grid? For this last race of the year, I was only looking to get in the top 5, and drive the car on the trailer at the end of the day, which is my goal for all the races.

It was a great race, fun and clean, and my congrats go out to all the racers. See you next year.

No problem Victor. Everybody had a opportunity and a choice. The Hoosier National contingency didn't apply to the NARRC because it is a regional race. Hoosiers contingency is only available to National classes. I enjoyed participating as a sponsor and will again in the future......I sell Toyo's too, though ....

thanks to all the sponsors for their contributions !!!

Hi Victor
I was just beating the bushes. Like I said I did not know why. I was really not about you but to raise the thoughts of those who do cheat.
If you were bothered by it I am sorry to you. You always seem to be a good guy and straight.
See at the track next year.

Hey Scott, I know you were just speaking your mind, and thinking out loud. That's what this board is for, especially since most of us post with our names. I was in fact a little surprised to see the post, and felt I had to respond. I guess I took it personally due to the length of your post, and maybe because I saw the post just as I was about to go to sleep after the long weekend. I suppose that most people would not know who participated in what contingency program, especially since we couldn't mingle on the pre-grid as we usually do due to the rain. No need to apologize, but thanks.
Have a good winter, see you next year too.

I must be the ITC Contingency Whore. Hell I had everyones stickers on my car (Phil's Tires, Lisa's Books, Rick's Steel), that's a lot of weight. I had so much vinyl I looked like I was going to a Greatful Dead Concert or a Peace Rally. I am convinced that the only reason I couldn't catch Hunter and Benazic was because of the weight of all the vinyl. The funny part was I wasn't eligible for many contingencies (ITC loser class), just wanted to show support for the great programs and sponsors.
Victor I always felt you ran a good race program and were a stand up guy.

Tim, what an awesome race to watch! I kept thinking how cool would this be to see an ITC car beat ALL of the ITA cars out there. Your Honda and (sorry, but a VW driver ) showed that it isn't all about power that the car has.

Thanks Dave - You gotta love the rain. I always have a great time at LRP after my "rain dance", and we were dancing hard, as the guys in the my paddock would have to confess. If you don't like rain I apologize, but I had a blast!

Not true! Northeast Racing Enterprises-Hoosier Tire (Bob Smart), who does all the SCCA Regional races in NE had the same contigency program thats is run all year for the NARRC Regional races... for 1st ,2nd and 3rd places in all classes!!
Look for more "new and improved" contingencies next year, along with the usual tires sales, mounting and balancing, welding services and race gear all brought to you at the track! See ya'll next season!

If Bob had a contingency it was sure news to me........ I had no knowledge of any program he was running and neither did a lot of the other competitors. I have been at many SCCA events this year and won a few also and never have I gotten any contingency from Bob. He needs to make it "public knowledge" This is not a secret society. What I was stating in my post was what Hoosier Indiana (corporate) is giving as contingency. As I stated earlier it does NOT apply to SCCA regional races. Most regional contingencies are from small guys like Bob and myself.

So Bob where's my contingency from the 4 Watkins Glen races I won this year????

Hoosier Tires East in Manchester CT also has a contingency program. $100 for 1st place, $50 for 2nd and $25 for 3rd. Pretty cool.

I know Victor already replied, but I wanted to speak up for him (for whatever that's worth). Victor is a stand up guy and I would be shocked if anything bad came out of his car. If not showing up to collect $200 makes you go "Hmm...what's he doing?" then I think there is a bigger issue in this class. He didn't want to participate for whatever reason, doesn't mean he has anything to hide.

Since I didn't go to the track this weekend and my car has been fast all year, what'cha thinking about me? I beat Victor a couple of times this year...and yeah, he beat me as well. Same with Richie and Rick. (Ray is just scared of me so he won't race when he knows I will. :P )

I just dislike the accusations....whether it has merit or not. And maybe I'm just having a bad day and this is bugging me for some reason.

Let me start by saying this isn't Bob Smart, but his PR person (otherwise known as the paperwork, beer purchasing and sandwich making assistant). He's busy getting ready to finish up the season at Nelson Ledges this weekend but here's what I know.

Since we've been doing this (1998?), Hoosier Tire East/NE Racing Enterprises has had the same contingency program for the NARRC Regional Races. Which is $100 credit for 1st, $50 credit for 2nd and $25 credit for third place towards the purchase of 4 tires. The program is posted on the Hoosier trailer(inside/outside) and I know Bob tells people about it when they buy tires. There's requirements of lots of stuff, all 4 tires Hoosier, # of starters, 3 decals no other tire company decals, driver needs to bring us a copy of final race results and the tires must be bought from Northeast Racing Enterprises or HTE (Hoosier Tire East) receipts needed! There's no secret society, no black helicopters! :P And I know Bob's planning on offering more contingencies next year on his own, in addition to this current one which is offered through Northeast Racing Ent., HTE and Hoosier(Indiana).
I've made a note to ask him about your 4 WGI wins, we'll need a copy of the results, etc. We can move it to email to give you address info, etc., so we're not stealing the thread here Email addy is [email protected] or [email protected]. He'll be back at the shop Monday after this weekend's Nelson Ledges regional/enduro (GOGO Bob & Dave in the enduro!!) and I'll see if I can get him to join the forum (he's slowly coming kicking and screaming onto the internet) Thanks!

Hi Jeremy

Like I said it was really to keep up the thoughts of there are people out there who do infact have parts on their cars that make them go faster than they should. I do know Victor is a stand up guy. I see I offended him and I want to say I`m sorry that I did. I may have been too forward. But hey we are talking about it. We need to approch this problem. I don`t have any answars today and writing checks means $$ and people to back up the work to be done and all the other stuff. Like we saw last year when shane was caught all they did was take away a win. It was a hassle for all involved. Your brother for removing a little weld on his exhaust lost the whole year and possible Champinship is nuts. Your car has been fast for years and your driving is great. But it is those who blow down the straights and miss the turns and win. Breaking track records and the such. Is a FLAG. I`ve spent some monies this year to have a good engine built and had the builder make sure he built it to specs within the GCR. I am going a little faster do to that plus a few more adjustments and getting a little better at driving .For now. I know a lot of other people are doing the same and should feel good about it.
Since all our cars are stock except for the stuff that is allowed we should from time to time allow a basic look over of eachothers stuff to check for Injectors fuel rails easy stuff. And those who have been accussed who have nothing to hide allow a measurement or 2 of cams or intakes compresion to set things straight. And if they chose not to then so be it. They may not be cheatting and just don`t want to show anything it`s up to them. But It can make someone go Hummmm.
And thats all from me on this subject. You can measure any time and look.
