Is this a fairly accurate map of the AMS road course?

Anybody got some hints? I'm guessing it's flat out on the oval in an ITA car.

    Thanks.

I believe most sanctioning bodies relegate you to the apron on the oval, invoking penalties if you run on the high banks.

That's right except for the right hander after start finish just goes straight there (the track is run clockwise).

Last year they made us run on the apron and it sucked, no room to pass. IMHO it would be much safer to run on the high banks. We did this at Rockingham and had no problems with the transition back to the infield (the only reason I heard why we were not allowed to run on the high banks).

Any well set up ITA car will be flat out around the apron.

In addition the infield portion is a little shorter than pictured. If you take a line straight down from the S/F line to make a short road that connects between the road course "loop" it's more accurate. Part of the infield road course has to be bypassed because the runoff areas would not pass inspection. Also, it's believed that next year AMS plans to build on that portion of the infield.

Hey, Bob, can you confirm that we will not have the restriction this year regarding staying below the painted line on the oval? I don't see anything about it in the supps, so my guess is that we can run higher on the banking this year. I'd hate to get there and find out that wasn't true.

Also, I was pretty sure that they planned to move the first chicane to the middle of the back stretch so that we'd have one less abrupt transition. Do you know if that change was made? And, if not, why not?

Just curious. I'll probably attend regardless, but think it'd be a lot better if those two changes were made.

Well, that's a big disappointment. Not only did they not move the chicane to the flat backstretch, they're holding us below the painted line again. Looks exactly like 2004. I know they got a LOT of feedback last year, and said there'd be improvements for the next time we raced there, but maybe the tornado damage threw a monkey wrench into the plans.
