Default where to mount a license plate?

OK, I'm almost embarrased to ask, but I will anyway. Where should a license plate be mounted on an open trailer. My brandy-new 16' open deck, open trailer doesn't seem to have an area to mount a license plate.

I started to drill out a couple of holes and realized my crappy Black n' Spanker wouldn't cut it (or more acurately, drill it).

My temporary solution was to mount the plate on the race car.

Try the back of the trailer fender. Easy to mount and keeps it out of the way when pulling out of an inclined driveway.

If you don't use the trailer for any thing else, the back of the race car is perfect and legal. I've done this for 20 years with no problems at all. I always turn the parking lites on at nite on the race car anyway, so the plate is 100% legal. Works for me.
